A captain serving at a correctional facility in Pavlodar has been convicted and sentenced for accepting bribes. The officer was found to have facilitated illegal privileges for inmates, including the smuggling of mobile phones into the facility.

Investigation Uncovers Corruption

The case came to light following an investigation by prosecutors, who discovered that the captain was receiving money from inmates. These payments were reportedly made in exchange for favorable decisions regarding sentence reductions and for the introduction of contraband mobile phones.

Bribes Fuel Gambling Habit

Evidence gathered during the investigation revealed that the captain spent the illicit funds on gambling at betting shops.

Court Ruling and Consequences

The court found the captain guilty and imposed a sentence of six years of imprisonment. In addition to the jail term, he has been permanently stripped of his right to hold public office and his special rank of Justice Captain. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
