Suspects in Judge Aygun Sailybaeva's Murder Detained in Russia, Won't Be Extradited

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared details regarding the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Judge Aygun Sailybaeva, which occurred in Germany. The ministry confirmed that individuals suspected in the case have been apprehended in Russia.

The Kazakh Embassy in Germany is maintaining regular contact with representatives from Germany's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this matter. Concurrently, the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt am Main is actively engaged with the relevant authorities in the German state of Hesse.

Suspects Apprehended in Russia

Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow reported the detention of A. Dontsov and N. Dontsova. This action was taken based on an extradition request from Kazakhstan's law enforcement agencies. Previously, these individuals had been placed on international wanted lists by German law enforcement and inter-state wanted lists by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Extradition Not Possible for Russian Citizens

Due to both suspects being Russian citizens, their extradition to Kazakhstan is not possible. Kazakhstan was informed of this development in advance. Russian authorities are currently awaiting an official request from Kazakhstan to initiate criminal proceedings within Russian territory, which would provide a legal basis for conducting investigative actions.

In response to a request from B. Sailybaev to initiate criminal proceedings against the individuals in question, the Kazakh Embassy sent an official note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 5, 2026. During discussions with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy emphasized the importance of expediting the review of this matter and expressed hope for a prompt response to the previously sent note. This issue remains under the constant supervision of Kazakhstan's Embassy in Russia.

Details of the Murder

Aygun Sailybaeva, a former judge in Kazakhstan, was found deceased near Lake Erlache in Germany. She was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death. Forensic experts identified stab wounds on her body, and the circumstances of the crime indicated extreme brutality.

Sailybaeva had been missing since June 5. She was last seen on June 3. The following day, Natalia Dontsova picked up her daughter, Jaclyn, from kindergarten, where Aygun's blood-stained jacket was later discovered. Furthermore, it was determined that on the night of June 4, Alexander Dontsov researched articles of the Criminal Code related to murder and concealment of crimes. Natalia Dontsova was later observed moving towards the direction of Lake Erlache, suggesting a possible attempt to prepare a location for concealing the body. On June 16, Alexander Dontsov's mobile phone was registered in the Lake Erlache area. Documents belonging to Aygun and her daughter were found in Alexander's grandmother's apartment, while Aygun's passport was only recovered during a second search.
