Atyrau, Kazakhstan – Authorities have detained Meirzhan Mukasov, the deputy mayor of Atyrau city, in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation. The case has sent ripples through the regional administration and political circles.

While official details remain scarce, unofficial sources indicate that the investigation is being spearheaded by the Anti-Corruption Agency, operating under the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan. The probe reportedly centers on a substantial sum of money, with figures suggesting an amount around 40 million tenge.

The investigation has also brought to light the involvement of a second suspect, Beibit Myrzagaliyev. Myrzagaliyev is identified as the chairman of the regional branch of the "AMANAT" party and a former chairman of the Atyrau City Maslikhat (local representative body). His name has emerged in connection with the case, though the exact nature of his alleged involvement is not yet clear.

Mukasov's Career and Allegations

Meirzhan Mukasov, a native of the Atyrau region, has a considerable history in public service, having worked in government since 2013. His career includes leadership roles in various departments, including the city's housing and communal services, the regional finance department, and departments overseeing state procurement and communal property.

Reports suggest that Mukasov initially expressed an intention to enter into a procedural agreement following his detention but later withdrew his consent. The specifics of this development are part of the ongoing investigation.
