Kazakhstan to Buy Back Old Cars to Improve Air Quality
Almaty is set to launch an initiative to improve its air quality by establishing a dedicated company tasked with buying back old, environmentally non-compliant vehicles. This move is part of a broader strategy to modernize the city's vehicle fleet and reduce harmful emissions.
A Project Focused on Environmental Improvement
Under the directive of City Mayor Darhan Satybaldy, the new company will purchase aging cars and subsequently dismantle them. The Department of Entrepreneurship and Investment Development, in collaboration with the 'Almaty' Special Economic Zone (SEZ), will spearhead the project's implementation.
Effective Ways to Modernize the Vehicle Fleet
The plan includes creating a subsidiary organization to manage the fleet modernization process. To encourage the adoption of newer, eco-friendly vehicles, the initiative will explore options such as subsidized loans, leasing programs, and a Trade-In system. Local automotive manufacturers are also expected to be involved in this project.
According to the city administration, this program is designed not only to incentivize the renewal of vehicle fleets but also to decrease the number of old cars on the road, thereby substantially cutting down on harmful emissions impacting Almaty's atmosphere.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance the urban environment and promote sustainable transportation solutions.
