Renowned Kazakh actor Doskhan Zholzhaksynov has voiced his profound concern regarding the current circumstances of Meruert Utekeshova, the celebrated actress who immortalized the role of Kyz Zhibek in the classic film.

Zholzhaksynov highlighted that for many, the image of Meruert Utekeshova is inextricably linked to her iconic portrayal of Kyz Zhibek. He shared his thoughts during an interview with journalist Zhanar Baisemigiz, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

Preserving Cultural Icons

The veteran actor stressed the necessity of safeguarding historical and cultural artifacts at an appropriate level. He questioned the current societal approach to remembering and honoring cultural figures.

"Where are the cultural figures of today?" Zholzhaksynov pondered. He suggested that if the costume worn by Kyz Zhibek had been lost, perhaps the actress herself might have been forgotten. He proposed that the iconic costume should be preserved in the Shaken Aimanov Museum or the Central State Museum.

A Call for Recognition

Reflecting on the situation, Zholzhaksynov expressed his dismay, asking, "Must a Kazakh person die for someone to be remembered? Only then will someone search for you, it seems." His poignant question underscores a broader concern about how society values and remembers its cultural icons.
