Almaty Flooded Again: Residents Blame Construction Companies for Torrential Rain Disaster

Almaty has once again been hit by severe flooding following intense rainfall, leaving homes in the lower parts of the city submerged. The Alatau district, specifically the Alghabas microdistrict, is currently underwater after the Kargaly River overflowed its banks.

River Overflow Disrupts Major Thoroughfare

The rising waters of the Kargaly River breached its banks, spilling onto Ryskulov Avenue, one of the city's busiest main roads. The floodwaters have inundated courtyards, homes, and various outbuildings, causing significant disruption and damage.

Residents Point to Construction as Cause

Local residents are holding construction companies in a neighboring microdistrict responsible for the disaster. They allege that these companies have altered the natural course of the river, exacerbating the flooding. Videos circulating on social media show rescue efforts by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, but the natural disaster remains largely uncontained.

Authorities Unresponsive Amidst Crisis

According to affected residents, the district administration has not been responding to calls. Local government officials have yet to be seen at the scene of the ongoing crisis, adding to the community's distress.

Worsening Conditions Expected

The Kazhydromet forecast indicates that rainfall is expected to continue in the region over the coming days. This prolonged period of rain could further worsen the already critical flooding situation in the metropolis.
