Kazakhstan's Kcell and Beeline to Discontinue Auto-Call Services

Two of Kazakhstan's leading mobile operators, Kcell and Beeline, have announced the discontinuation of their auto-call services for subscribers. These changes are set to take effect soon, marking a shift in how missed calls are communicated.

Kcell's 'Microcall' Service Ends

For subscribers of Kcell and its subsidiary Activ, the 'Microcall' service will cease operations on June 30. Until then, the service will function as usual. Kcell cited a declining need for such features, noting that many customers now prefer instant messaging apps, voice messages, and other digital communication channels.

Beeline's 'Beep Call' to Be Retired

Similarly, Beeline will stop its 'Beep Call' function on July 1. The company explained that the 'dozvonn' notifications, which inform users of calls received when their phone was unavailable, often cause inconvenience and negative reactions among subscribers.

Regulatory Changes Underway

These operator decisions align with broader regulatory shifts. In May, the Ministry of Information and Digital Development announced plans to amend communication service regulations to prevent auto-call functionalities. Moving forward, subscribers will primarily receive notifications for missed calls via standard text messages.

The status of similar services from Tele2/Altel remains unclear, as the companies did not provide information regarding their auto-call features upon request, and no official announcements were found on their websites.
