Kazakhstan Slashes Passport Processing Time for Citizens Abroad
Kazakhstan is set to implement a significant change that will benefit its citizens residing overseas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a draft regulation aimed at drastically cutting down the processing time for new passports.
Faster Passport Issuance for Expats
Under the proposed new rules, the waiting period for Kazakhstani citizens abroad to receive their passports will be reduced from the current 90 days to just 40 days. This initiative is currently open for public discussion, with citizens having until April 6th to submit their feedback.
Future Fee Changes
While the immediate focus is on reducing processing times, the announcement also touches upon the cost of identification documents. It was previously reported that starting January 1, 2026, obtaining a first-time national ID card in Kazakhstan or replacing an expired one will be free of charge.
