Russia Launches Massive Overnight Assault on Ukraine with Hundreds of Drones and Missiles

Russia launched a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, deploying hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles across the country. Experts suggest this may signal the beginning of Moscow's spring offensive operations.

Widespread Attacks Reported

Ukrainian authorities reported that Russia launched approximately 400 drones and dozens of missiles during the night. This marks one of the most significant attacks in recent weeks, with strikes beginning Monday night and continuing into Tuesday.

President Zelenskyy Addresses the Nation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the attacks spanned a wide geographical area. Despite the successful interception of over 500 drones, strikes were confirmed in numerous regions, including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnipro.

"People died. I offer my condolences to their relatives and loved ones. More than 40 people, including five children, have been injured so far. All necessary assistance is being provided," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that the Russian strikes primarily targeted the nation's energy infrastructure.

Potential Spring Offensive Underway

Experts and media outlets are noting the increased intensity of Russian attacks, including ground operations, suggesting it could be the start of a broader spring-summer campaign. Russian media, however, has not reported on the strikes within Ukraine.

According to reports from Russian media outlet RBC, Ukrainian drones were intercepted in several Russian regions, including Leningrad, Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Smolensk, Kaluga, and Voronezh. The publication also noted that two strikes on the "Veles-Agro" agricultural enterprise in the Khomutovsky district of the Kursk region resulted in injuries to 13 people.

This escalation follows President Zelenskyy's earlier warnings to the Ukrainian population to prepare for potential large-scale strikes from Russia.
