Kazakhstan to Host New AI University for Turkic Nations
Kazakhstan is set to become a hub for Artificial Intelligence within the Turkic world with the announcement of a new, innovative university. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev revealed the plan during an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States, outlining a vision to foster collaboration and technological advancement among member nations.
New AI University and Grants
The proposed institution, to be named the University of Artificial Intelligence, will adopt a new educational format. Significantly, Kazakhstan is prepared to allocate special grants to attract students from all Turkic countries, aiming to cultivate a diverse and skilled talent pool in the burgeoning field of AI.
Fostering Turkic Cooperation
President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan's commitment to strengthening cooperation in AI and digital technologies among Turkic nations. "We plan to open a new format of educational institution in Kazakhstan – a University of Artificial Intelligence. We are ready to allocate special grants for the education of citizens from all Turkic states," he stated.
Scientific Olympiad and Investment Fund
Furthering this collaborative spirit, the President proposed an annual scientific and technological Olympiad for the youth of Turkic countries, focusing on AI and advanced digital technologies. He suggested that the Turkic Investment Fund could provide financial backing for these initiatives. The fund, which has already proven its effectiveness in supporting concrete projects, has a charter capital of $600 million and is expected to grow. It is envisioned as a strategic tool for supporting startups and implementing major infrastructure projects across the Turkic region.
Establishing 'Turkic AI' Center
In a move to consolidate efforts, Tokayev also proposed the creation of a unified center for IT startups from Turkic states, to be named 'Turkic AI'. This center is planned to be hosted at the base of the alem.ai international technopark. The goal is to centralize technological projects and enhance collaboration in AI and digital development among Turkic countries.
Preserving Cultural Values
While championing technological progress, President Tokayev underscored the importance of preserving spiritual and cultural values. He stated, "While developing artificial intelligence and high technologies, we must not forget our spiritual and cultural values. Preserving the rich heritage of Turkic civilization and reviving historical memory is a key task."
